Busted! Don’t Believe These Myths About Laser Hair Removal!

With improvements in technology and busy schedules, the traditional methods of removing hair such as waxing, shaving, threading, and depilatory creams have taken a back seat. While it is still used by many people, an effective alternative treatment that has gained momentum over the last few years has been laser hair removal treatment.

It is a safe technique that works well to remove or reduce unwanted hair growth in any area of your body. However, in spite of the high-quality equipment used during the procedure and the reassurance of minimal risk, many mistaken beliefs continue to dominate this industry.

To help you steer clear of the many misconceptions that exist, Tropicalaser has dispelled three of the most widely believed myths about laser hair removal.

Myth 1: Shaving will damage your skin.
Before using our GentleMax Lasers to remove hair, we request all our clients to shave. We sometimes receive some push-back from our clients, particularly those who try the laser hair removal treatment on their faces. This is due to the prevailing myth that shaving causes hair to grow thicker, quicker, and darker.

However, this is categorically not the case. In reality, after you shave, hair emerges blunter (not tapered like naturally growing hair) which may give you the impression that the hair is coarser and darker. Allowing shaved hair to grow to full length will indicate no change in color or thickness.

A quick Google search will reveal the same. Read the following article to know more. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/adult-health/expert-answers/hair-removal/faq-20058427

Myth 2: Laser hair removal will cause cancer or infertility.
This mistaken belief may be caused by the hazard warning signs surrounding laser machines which do warn of radioactivity. In fact, radiation emitted by laser machines is negligible and well within safe background norms. Laser beams will not penetrate enough into the body to cause radioactive damage.

Myth 3: It is not safe to treat dark skin.
You can receive laser hair removal treatment on your dark skin provided you use a laser with the correct wavelength. (E.g. the 1064 nm YAG) The only important criterion is that your hair must be darker than the surrounding skin because the laser will seek the darkest pigment available to target.
